Hello to everyone, from all of us at the Licking Senior center. I trust you’ve had a great week so far. Got a little rain. Yay.

Lunch is served Monday through Friday from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm. Come on over, and pull up a chair, and enjoy a good lunch and great company.

Everyone is welcome to come to the Senior center, regardless of age, race, or color, and age, we’re always happy to meet new people.

Mark your calendar for August 3rd at 11:00 am for Walter Plant. Our lunch for that day will be BBQ pulled pork, chips, cole slaw and dessert.

Cost is $6.00 each.

I can’t say enough about our group of volunteers. I am so blessed to say in 15 years, I might have called a volunteer a few times to see if they were going to volunteer. So I think that is something to brag about. If you would like to volunteer, please call Cindy at 573-674-3558. You won’t regret making that phone call.

On November 5th, we are having a 5 year open house celebration. And I got word that Herman Hall is coming to sing for us that day. So mark your calendars and we hope yo see you all there.

Our silent auction is in full swing. There are a lot of neat things to look at. Over 100 items to bid on from, jewelry, pictures, baked goods, to collectibles, candles and a whole lot more. Place your bids now. Auction ends just after Labor Day.

Little Johnny's teacher is doing her rounds at lunchtime when she sees little Johnny making faces at another child. She starts to talk sternly to Little Johnny and says "Johnny, when I was a young girl I was told that if I made ugly faces and the wind changed, my face would stay that way."

Hello to everyone from the Licking Senior center. I trust everyone had a great week. Fall is in the air, get out and see some of the fall colors, they are starting to turn.

On Saturday October 30th we are planning to have a hot dog roast at the center. Bring some hotdogs to roast, and something to drink, and we will have a good time. Starts at 6:00 pm.

Wear a costume if you want, I wear mine year round.

Our Thanksgiving feast will be on November 17th at 11:00 am until 12:30 pm. The cost of the meal will be $7.00.

Providing we even find turkeys. If you see some turkeys flying over, I need about 10, thank you.

Volunteers are needed for Monday delivery and we need someone to ride with on Thursday’s. If you can volunteer, please contact Cindy at 573-674-3558.

Prayers are needed for Don Lotz, I saw him on Friday, and he seems to be doing a lot better. Thank you, Jesus.

The visiting Bible school supervisor asks little Johnny during Bible class, "Who broke down the walls of Jericho?" Little Johnny replies, "I dunno, but it wasn't me!" The supervisor, taken aback by Johnny's lack of basic Bible knowledge goes to the school principal and relates the whole incident. The principal replies, "I know Little Johnny as well as his whole family very well and can vouch for them; if Little Johnny said that he did not do it, then I, as principal is satisfied that it is the truth." Even more appalled, the inspector goes to the regional Head of Education and relates the whole story... After listening he replies: "I can't see why you are making such a big issue out of this; just get three quotes and fix, “the wall!"

Hello to everyone from the Licking senior center. I trust you had a great week. Try to get out of house and get some fresh air. After all, It won’t be long until that old man winter will be sticking his nose in our business.

There’s not a lot going on at the center this week. Just trying to keep up with everyone’s needs. Especially Vi Bailie, she actually came to eat with us on Wednesday, and she is still blowing and going, just like she always has.

Volunteers are an essential part of the senior center. We need volunteers to deliver meals, answer telephone calls, desk workers, cleaning and so much more. If this is something you can do for a couple of hours, please call me at 573-674-3558.

Toenail clinic will be at the center on October 27th. Come get your toenails all cleaned up for the holidays coming up. Donations are always welcome.

Texas county health department will be at our center on October 21st at 10:00 am for Flu Shots. They will only be there for about an hour.

The old man had died. A wonderful funeral was in progress and the country preacher talked at length of the good traits of the deceased, what an honest man he was, and what a loving husband and kind father he was. Finally, the widow leaned over and whispered to one of her children, "Go up there and take a look in the coffin and make sure that's your pa in there."

Hello, from the Licking Senior Center. I trust everyone had a great week. There is fall in the air, can’t wait to start smelling the fire from hot dog roast, I even like the smell of burning leaves, but don’t think it is allowed in the city. I really don’t know. It anyway, enjoy while you can, because we all know what is around the corner.

Prayers for Don Lotz for a speedy recovery. Can’t wait for him to come back to the center. We miss you Don.

The Texas County health department will be at the center giving flu shots on October 21st from 10:00 am until around 11:00 am.

Toenail clinic will be back at the center on October 27th at 10:00 am. Donations are accepted.

We had our gun raffle and the winner of the 30/30 deer rifle was Judah Perselet. Congratulations Judah.

George went on a vacation to the Middle East with his family, including his mother-in-law. During their vacation in Jerusalem, George’s mother-in-law died. With the death certificate in his hand, George went to the American Consulate Office to make arrangements to send the body back to the United States for a proper burial. The Consul told George that to send the body back to the United States for burial is very, very expensive. It could cost him as much as $5,000.00. The Consul told him, in most cases the person responsible for the remains normally decides to bury the body here in Jerusalem. This would only cost him $150.00. George thinks for some time and answers, "I don’t care how much it will cost to send the body back, that’s what I want to do." The Consul says, "You must have loved your mother-in-law very much considering the difference in price." "No, it’s not that," says George. "You see, I know of a case many, many years ago of a man that was buried here in Jerusalem. On the third day he arose from the dead! I just can’t take that chance!"

Prayers are needed for Alta Dixon as she has pneumonia. And continued prayers for Eugene Maxey to get his strength back.

My cousin called and asked if I could loan her $300.00 to help pay for her rent.

I told her to give me some time to think about it and I would call her back. Before I called her back my aunt called, told me that my cousin was lying and not to give her the money.

She goes on to say that the real reason my cousin wanted the $300.00 was to get her boyfriend out of jail so she “could be under the same roof as him for his birthday”. I was mad when I heard that, but I thought about it for a minute ...decided to give her the $300.00 because we all need help at times.

So, I called my cousin told her to come get the money. A couple of hours later, I get a call from the Correctional Facility. It was my cousin crying, screaming & asking why I gave her counterfeit money. My response...so you and your boyfriend could be under the same roof for his birthday!

We will be opening the center doors on Monday September 20th. I am truly sorry that we closed our doors, when we I found out about a Covid case at the center. Areas of use have been sanitized and we are ready to start serving food to our patrons again.

Prayers are still needed for Don Lotz, as he has been really sick. And always pray for our country.

Our annual fundraiser has been cancelled for October 10th. Although we will still raffle off the gun. Come on over and get your tickets before we raffle.

Would like like to donate items to our center, such as paper towels, cake mixes and frosting, toilet paper and potatoes, if so just drop them in at the center at 114 Green street.

Delivery drivers are needed to deliver meals on Monday and Thursday. If interested please call 573-674-3558.

I finally got to talk to the toenail clinic lady. She will be here this month on September 22nd to clip your toenails.

She will arrive around 10:00 am. Donations are always welcome.

Prayers are needed for Lillian Maxey, for she is having some issues with her blood pressure. Other than that, I think we need to sincerely pray for our country.

We are going to start coming around for donations for our annual fundraiser.

We’re still going strong, even though we are trying to take all the extra precautions needed to keep that nasty virus away.

We really need a delivery person on Thursday to ride along and carry meals to the businesses and or homes. About an hour and a half, one day a week is all we need.

Donations are always welcome to our center. We had several in the past couple of weeks, one coming from Arkansas with a $100.00 worth of paper towels. There are folks that are very grateful and dedicated to this nice organization and we appreciate what you can do, anytime.

I still haven’t heard from the toenail lady. I’m sure when she gets well, she will call.

Things have been going really good,

we got the new flag pole inside and a big group of volunteers stripped and waxed the dining room floor, pressure washed the outside of building. A big big thank you to all of the volunteers who helped with the work.

I still haven’t heard from the toenail clinic lady. I hope she contacts us soon.

In case you go looking for Vi Bailie, she is at the Licking residential, just a blowing and going. She seems to be doing well. Prayers have been answered.

Walter Plant was at the center last week, and what a wonderful performance, and a big crowd we had.

Hopefully we will have him come back next year.

Don’t forget to get your chicken dinner tickets for our annual fundraiser on October 10th. There will be a silent auction, and Strongman Steve will be coming, Steve can break pipes in half with his teeth and license plates and so much more, you don’t want to miss this. We also have a 30-30 Marlin deer rifle with a scope to raffle.

“Darling,” he says, “I just got invited by my boss to go on a weekend company fishing trip. We’re leaving right after work so would you mind packing some things for me? I’ll need my blue silk pajamas, two days worth of clothes, toiletries, my fishing pole, and my tackle box. Oh, and don’t forget my blue silk pajamas.”

The husband arrives home a few hours later and his wife has a suitcase, his fishing pole, and his tackle box ready for him. “Thanks, honey, I’ll be leaving now. Did you remember to pack my blue silk pajamas?”

“Yes, dear, I packed your blue silk pajamas.”

The husband returns home on Sunday night and his wife greets him and asks how his fishing trip was.

“It was great,” he says, “Lots of fishing, lots of networking. Only problem was that you forgot to pack my blue silk pajamas.”

“No I didn’t,” she said, “they were in your tackle box.”

SENIOR HAPPENINGS - August 12, 2021

The most fantastic lunches are served at the senior center Monday through Friday from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm.

Why don’t you come on over and pull up a chair and visit and eat. You can wear a mask if it makes you more comfortable until you eat. We also have deliveries and carry out available by calling 573-674-3558.

Volunteers are the most amazing people. We have a crew of volunteers coming in on this beautiful Sunday afternoon to buff and wax the floors.

If it weren’t for those stepping up to the plate, nothing gets done. Thank you to all the volunteers who have donated their time to make this a better place.

Please keep Connie Kell in your prayers as she is recovering from pneumonia. Daisy Coats just had back surgery so keep her in your prayers.

Dorothy Lotz needs continued prayers as she is in the nursing home.

Eugene Maxey will have his stint in his kidney replaced on the 11th of August, we have to keep him healthy so he doesn’t miss out on PING PONG.

On a good note we are gearing up for our annual fundraiser. Soon we will be going around to businesses in the area, either for an item to donate or a monetary donation if you can. The chicken dinner will be on October 10th from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm. Get your tickets early by coming to the senior center.

The teacher asked Little Johnny, “what do you want to be when you grow up”?

Little Johnny says I want to be a veterinarian or a taxidermist.

SENIOR HAPPENINGS - August 5, 2021

Hello to everyone from all of us at the Licking Senior Center. I trust you all had a great week. I did, went to Highland Illinois to the Madison County fair to get a Optimist pizza and they changed the way they made them. What a wasted trip. Oh well.

Listen folks, we need volunteers in the kitchen, and delivering meals on Tuesday and Thursday. Here’s the way I look at this. This is our senior center, one that everyone worked so hard to get. We have a very nice facility, but the one thing it takes to keep it running is you. Come on and get out of your house and volunteer. It sure makes your heart feel good when you’re doing something to help others. Call Cindy and tell me that you can volunteer at 573-674-3558.

I will have to let you know more about toenail clinic when I know something. As of now I have not heard from her.

Continued prayers for Dorothy Lotz and Vi Bailie. It’s hard to keep Vi down, she’s doing 100, just blowing and going, just like before.

We have a gun raffle. The gun is a Marlin 30-30 deer rifle with a scope.

There will also be $300.00 cash if you do not wish to take the gun if you win.

Tickets are $5.00 each or 6 for $5.00.

Watch for our new flag pole going up outside the center. Fox Funeral home donated it, and Senator Carla Eslinger donated the flags. Thank you both very much.

Delivery and carry out is available by calling one of our friendly volunteers at 573-674-3558. Our senior center is located at 114 Green Street, Licking, Mo. 65542.

Donations are always needed at the senior center. Items such as potatoes, paper towels, jiffy cornbread mix, cake mixes and frosting, dry beans such as pinto or great northern, detergent for washing towels and aprons, dishwashing soap(dawn preferred)

Thank you in advance for your donations.

On October 9th we will have a chicken dinner beginning at 11:00 am. Tickets will be sold in advance and money will be refunded if we cannot come through. Not sure of ticket price, but will know by next weeks edition of the Licking News.

There will also be a silent auction and we will raffle the Marlin 30-30 off or the $300.00 it will be your choice to take one or the other if you win.

Susie Blackburn is one of our newest volunteers who works the phone and desk on Friday’s. Susie is all about her business and keeps pretty busy doing other jobs as well, such as laundry, etc. Thank you Susie for joining us, and for all you do.

Walter Plant will be at our center, and will be playing music for us beginning at 11:30 am. We will be trying hard to practice social distancing, and if Covid gets worse we will cancel.

Our fundraiser is a marlin 30-30 deer rifle with scope. This is a beautiful gun and will be given away just in time for deer season. Although if you don’t want the gun, there is also a choice of $300.00 cash. You take one or the other. Tickets are a $1.00 a piece or 6 for $5.00.

There are folks that encourage you to come to the center and challenge them to a game of ping pong or shuffleboard. They usually start playing around 11:30 am.

Our volunteers are very special to us. They take their time out their day, to spend time with us like Ann Liebert. She has been an active volunteer for about 10 years. She answers the phone on Monday’s and peels potatoes on Thursday’s, has done a lot of meal deliveries, amongst other things. Donates quilts for raffles. A little on the ornery side but we deal with it.

Another volunteer who works on Tuesday and Wednesday and other days when needed is Gerry Thornhill.

She just retired from her job after 60 years (lol) and still thought she needed to stay busy. It didn’t take me long to say yes, you can volunteer here. A pleasure to be around all the time.

Just know that we are very concerned about the increasing number of Covid cases in our area, and we are doing everything we can to keep everyone safe at our senior center, although if you are sick, please stay home. Come back and see us when you feel better.

The teacher asked her students which state they thought has the most cows. A little girl raised her hand and said Texas.

We were very glad to see the toenail lady come in Friday. If you didn’t get your toenails clipped she will be back at her normal time , which is the fourth week in August.

Over the last several months, I have mentioned some very important people called volunteers. It takes a lot of volunteers to run this senior center, and I would like to see more volunteers. Don’t just sit and look at the walls, we have plenty of work right here, that when you go home in the afternoon you can honestly say I really

The volunteer of the week is Madonna Williams, she is the volunteer on Monday’s at the desk, very pleasant to be around, always singing. What a great place just to be yourself like Madonna does.

Please keep Vi Bailie in your prayers still, she’s making progress, but very slow. Dorothy Lotz seems to be stable, with really no changes. Minnie Akers is healing from a fall that occurred at the United Community help center.

Little Johnny and his younger sister Marsha were on their very first train ride. They had brought along bananas for lunch. Just as they began to peel them, the train entered a long, dark tunnel.

"Have you eaten your banana yet?" Johnny asked excitedly.

"No," replied Marsha.

"Well don't touch it then!" Johnny shouted. "I just took a bite and went blind!"

Hello to everyone from all of us at the Licking Senior Center. I trust everyone had a great week. Thank God for a little rain, not a lot by for. But I’m sure we will get more.

Lunch is served Monday through Friday from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm.

We do have carry out available or pickup, and eating inside is a great option. To get a carry out or pickup call 573-674-3558.

I have two outstanding volunteers this week who helps in so many ways from volunteering in the kitchen, answering phones when needed to donating birthday cakes and items for the kitchen and supporting fundraisers, etc. Kay and Stan Shelton are those great folks who support the Senior center with all their heart. Stan is real mouthy, where Kay doesn’t get a chance to be.

Thank you guys for all you do for the senior center.

Keep prayers going for Vi Bailie. She is in Kubul Nursing home in Cabool, doing physical therapy. It’s a long road to recovery, but I think she is at the point where she needs to be, getting a little better one day at a time. Her grandson Clint is even taking meals from the senior center, to Cabool., so she will eat good.

Dorothy Lotz needs continued prayers, she is in Hickory Manor in Licking. Saturday June 26th, Don and Dorothy were married 67years. I really don’t know how she put up with him that long. But this is great. Congratulations to you both.

I don’t have any information on the toenail clinic, but just as soon as I hear anything, I can let you know.

We are very sorry to hear about the loss of Harold Sullins. Harold was a member of the Licking senior center, and our sympathies go to the family.

Please keep praying for Vi Bailie, she is now in Kabul nursing home, doing physical therapy, she has a long way to go. But we all know she is a fighter.

Also, pray for Dorothy Lotz, she is in Hickory Manor, it seems to me that she is making some progress.

So since I didn’t do an article last week, thought I would let you know that Reggie’s volunteer achievement party went very well. Thanks to everyone who made this possible.

My volunteer of the week, would be Kelly Dietcsh, Kelly has been delivering meals with us for approximately 6 years. Comes all the way to us from Raymondville, you know out there where Delbert directs traffic. Any way Kelly is an exceptional volunteer, who gets mouthy now and again, but not bad. She also makes sure that Marie Barnes doesn’t get out of line. Thanks Kelly for all you do.

I still haven’t heard from the toenail clinic lady. We will forget about June and try to plan a clinic in July.

We have a Marlin deer rifle 30/30 with a scope. This gun is very nice and is ready to start selling raffle tickets. Tickets are 6 for $5.00 or a dollar each. This raffle is for the benefit of the senior center.

Little Johnny’s teacher asked what my favorite animal was, and I said, “Fried chicken.” She said I wasn’t funny, but she couldn’t have been right, because everyone else laughed.

My parents told me to always tell the truth. I did. Fried chicken is my favorite animal.

I told my dad what happened, and he said my teacher was probably a member of PETA. He said they love animals very much. I do, too. specially chicken, pork and beef.

Anyway, my teacher sent me to the principal’s office. I told him what happened, and he laughed, too. Then he told me not to do it again.

The next day in class my teacher asked me what my favorite live animal was. I told her it was chicken. She asked me why, so I told her it was because you could make them into fried chicken. She sent me back to the principal’s office. He laughed, and told me not to do it again. I don’t understand.

My parents taught me to be honest, but my teacher doesn’t like it when I am. Today, my teacher asked me to tell her what famous person I admired most. I told her, “Colonel Sanders.” Guess where I am now...

I think that just about everyone is trying to get back to normal. I’m not seeing anyone wearing a mask when they come in, and if they are, it is their choice if they want to.

I’m going to recognize a VOLUNTEER that has gone over and beyond, over the years that I’ve known her. Reggie Ward has volunteered more hours for not just our organization but a lot of other organizations and fund raisers than I’ve ever seen. I can remember, when I first moved here, she was also a very good mentor to me. She just jumps right in there and helps do whatever needs to be done, and it’s done right. From being the chairman of the fundraising committee, and the BOSS of different things when the new building was being built, even Lonnie’s boss, the marble and shuffleboard tournaments, and she is also the one that cuts up the chicken on Wednesday’s for chicken day on Thursday’s, and so much more. With this being said, Reggie should be the one to have the LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD FOR VOLUNTEERS in our community.

So with that being said we would like to honor Reggie Ward on June 13th at 2:00 pm at the Licking Senior Center.

Everyone is welcome to join us. Thank you Reggie for all you do for us at the senior center and so many others.

Hello to everyone from all of us at the Licking Senior Center. I trust you all had a great week. Sorry that I didn’t get an article in last week, I had went on vacation.

Lunch is served Monday through Friday from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm.

We offer carry outs and curbside and deliveries within 5 miles of the senior center. You can get these services by calling 573-674-3558.

Volunteers are needed in the kitchen Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday’s. If you would be interested in volunteering please call us at 573-674-3558.

This week I would like to recognize a few hard working volunteers. The first one is Ken Hollenbeck. Ken is the one that brings his experience to us on making the spaghetti. He is a retired general of the U.S Air Force. He always is willing to help with auctions and deliveries of meals. Thank you for your service most of all, Ken. Secondly thank you for volunteering.

The next one is Richard Hofstetter. Always there at the center reaching out to help. But he needs hearing aids badly. When you have to repeat yourself with everything you say, gets old. So eventually we will probably take up a donation for him. Sorry Richard I had to tell the people about you. Thank you for the giving your time to us. Wouldn’t know what to do without you.

The next volunteer has been a very dedicated volunteer. Jeff Goris. Not only is he our part time driver for transportation, but over the years he has been delivering meals when needed, now he has a dedicated route on Monday’s. Thank you Jeff for being there.

There will not be a toenail clinic in June. The lady that does this is having back surgery. Hope we will see her in July.

What a great article in the last weeks newspaper. Blessed with volunteers, was the headline in the newspaper last week. And yes, we ARE truly blessed. But It looks like a lot of volunteers, although it takes many hands to keep things going on.

Volunteers are the biggest part of this organization. The board members are all volunteers, the kitchen help is mainly volunteers, the phone and desk folks are volunteers, cleaning restrooms and dining room is all done by volunteers. We can’t do it without YOU.

Even though volunteer appreciation month has gone by, our appreciation for our volunteers still continue. I would like to recognize a couple of volunteers this week. Richard Hofstetter is a Board Member and a true volunteer. Anytime he is asked to do something, he pitches right in. Usually without confrontation, thank you Richard for being a dedicated volunteer. The next volunteer is Ken Hollenbeck. Ken is a former board member. And he drives on Thursday’s to deliver meals. He is also the one that’s makes the delicious spaghetti, usually once a month. Ken has been a very faithful volunteer for about 6 years. Thank you Ken for volunteering at the senior center.

There are a couple of volunteers that I would like to recognize this week. The first one is Marie Barnes. Now Marie has been volunteering for a couple of years and works the desk on Tuesdays. She is my assistant at the center, so she says anyway. Sometimes she does have a mean streak, but it’s nothing that I can’t deal with. She is also a very dedicated volunteer.

The next one is Kay Johnston who peels potatoes on Wednesdays and answers the phone on Fridays. I can’t say anything about Kay, other than she always has a kind word for everyone. Kay has been volunteering for about three years, along side her husband Richard Johnston who used to be Vice President of our board, and peels potatoes on Wednesday. Two very dedicated volunteers.

We had our silent auction on Friday that went very well. Thanks to all of you who helped with that and all of those who donated items for the auction.

After the silent auction ended, we then had our volunteer appreciation water. There was cake and ice cream and homemade punch. Although someone forgot to put all the ingredients in it. I won’t mention any names but her initials are C. W. Still tasted good.

SENIOR HAPPENINGS - April 22, 2021

I’m going to recognize 3 volunteers this week. Luetta Swaringim and Viola Bailie and Minnie Akers. These three ladies remind me of the Golden Girls, you decide who fits which character. Luetta has been volunteering for about 25 years, working 2 days a week. Hardly says anything, but a great volunteer who is 97 years old.

Viola Bailie is just the opposite of Lou Swaringim. Vi Bailie is on the mouthier, but a very dedicated volunteer who is 96 years old. Vi has been volunteering about 35 years, and seems to be pretty active still. Minnie on the other hand is in between the other two. Minnie just turned 80 years old and has been volunteering for several years. She keeps good track who walks through the door. If she don’t know who they are, by the end of the day, she’ll figure out who they are. I think she reminds me of Bea from the Golden Girls.

Hurry up and get over here, the silent auction will be over on April 23 rd at 12:30 pm. Lots of great items to bid on.

Also, on April 23rd we will be having a volunteer appreciation party at 1:00 pm. If you are a volunteer, come on over and have some cake and punch.

Minnie Akers turned 80 years young on April 5th. Her family is having a 80 th birthday party for her at the Rock Springs Baptist church on April 10th at 1:00 pm. Everyone is welcome to come

Our silent auction is a big one. We have things like a sketch of the old Linson barn by Loran Creech and a sketch of the old Jones’s chicken house by Mike Creech, a 1997 Licking Park Manor quilt with all residents from that year on it. And a lot of other stuff, that are to numerous to mention. Come and bid, the bidding will end on April 23rd. There will also be a volunteer appreciation party at one on the 23rd. Everyone is welcome.

The volunteer of the week should be volunteer of the year. Marilyn Cantrell is a very dedicated volunteer. She wants this Senior Center to thrive and would do just about anything to make sure it does. She gets a little mouthy once in a while but I have learned to ignore her. Thank you Marilyn for all you do at the senior center.

Missouri’s Senator, Carla Eslinger came to our center last Wednesday to ask if we had any questions, and also played a little ping pong. She also brought us a new U.S. Flag and a New Missouri flag. We are also looking into buying a new flag pole soon.

Volunteers make up a big part of what goes on at the senior center. This week I would like to recognize Keith Cantrell who helps in the kitchen on Monday’s. Keith, as most of you know is the Mayor of our little town, now if he can take the time to come and volunteer, there has to be others out there who could easily find about 3 hours a week to come in and answer the phone or work in the kitchen. Also, we need delivery drivers on Monday and Thursday’s.

The Licking Bridge Builders will be having a board meeting on March 16th at 1:00 pm. We will be voting on new officers, and if you would like to be a nominee on the board, please come to the meeting. Everyone is welcome to attend, but you have to be a member to vote.

We had another busy week at the center, but that’s what we want is to be busy. Serving a little over a 100 a day is great. Just know that everyone is welcome to come to our center, even if you’re one, but don’t come by yourself.

We’re actually having a ball, seeing the folks coming back into the dining room to eat. Just listening to them and tell their stories, tells it all. I absolutely love this.

Been even see a lot of new people walk through the door. Just know, everyone is welcome at the senior center, no matter what your age is.

I’m going to acknowledge some volunteers, who actually has their own business. Mark Lavely, runs 63 Liquor, he takes time out of his busy schedule once a week, to peel potatoes for Thursday’s meal. He is a very dependable volunteer, and has been doing this for over a year now. Thank you Mark for supporting your center.

Hello to everyone from all of us at the Licking senior center. Well it kind of looks like old man winter found us. I think I’m moving to Miami, this morning it was 79 degrees there. After all, it’s so cold that when the cows are milked, ice cream comes out.

There’s not a lot of anything going on this week at all. But we still need volunteers at the center, call Cindy at 573-674-3558 and she will be able to tell you what kind of volunteer positions are available for you.

We had a very big week at the center, running out of food, three out of five days is good for us, but our mission is to be able to feed everyone that walks through the door. So this week, we will be making extra food, so that what matter the time you come, hopefully we will have food. Sorry for the inconvenience. Lunch is served from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm. Love your center campaign is going real good. The cost is $5.00 a month. The best thing about that is, if you pay $60.00 for the year, you get two free meals, valued at $10.00. This helps with the utilities, since we do not receive any State funding. Please participate if you can.

We are also in need of cake mixes, frostings, paper towels, bread, milk, potatoes, toilet paper etc. if you can donate please drop items by 114 Green Street.

I’m happy to announce that Pharmacy Day will be back in February. As a matter of fact it will be February 9th. So mark your calendar for this important day. Thanks to Jeremy at Rinne’s pharmacy for all you do for the Senior Center.

Lunch is served from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm Monday through Friday. So get on your fancy clothes, go pick your kids up, stop by and pick your grandkids up, and get on over here for a home cooked meal. Carry outs are available, along with picking your meal up.

The boss of a big company needed to call one of his employees about an urgent problem with one of the main computers. He dialed the employees home phone number and was greeted with a child's whispered, "Hello?"

Feeling put out at the inconvenience of having to talk to a youngster the boss asked, "Is your Daddy home?"

"Yes", whispered Little Johnny.

May I talk with him?" the man asked.

To the surprise of the boss, Little Johnny whispered, No.

Wanting to talk with an adult, the boss asked, "Is your Mommy there?"

"Yes", came the answer.

"May I talk with her?" Again Little Johnny whispered, "No."

Knowing that it was not likely that a young child would be left home alone, the boss decided he would just leave a message with the person who should be there watching over the child., "Is there any one there besides you?" the boss asked the child.

Wondering what a cop would be doing at his employee's home, the boss asked, "May I speak with the policeman?"

"No, he's busy", whispered Little Johnny.

"Busy doing what?" asked the boss.

Growing concerned and even worried as he heard what sounded like a helicopter through the ear piece on the phone the boss asked, "What is that noise?"

"A hello-copper", answered the whispering Little Johnny.

"What is going on there?" asked the boss, now alarmed.

In an awed whispering voice Little Johnny answered, "The search team just landed the hello-copper!"

Alarmed, concerned and more than just a little frustrated the boss asked, "Why are they there?"

Hello to everyone from all of us at the Licking Senior center. I hope you all had a merry Christmas, and I know we’re all looking forward to a Happy New Year.

We were all saddened by the loss of Shirley Ramsey this last week. Shirley spent a lot of time at the Bridge Builders, playing canasta and pinochle. She was a dedicated member when she felt well. We will miss her dearly.

I am still contemplating on opening the dining room after the first of the year. But not set in stone yet. Just want to see how things go after Christmas.

If you are a member and you support the Love Your Center Campaign, 2021 is underway. If you pay $60.00 for a whole year, you will receive 2 free meals in return. Unfortunately, old man winter is upon us. Be prepared for the unexpected things that can happen in the winter time.

We are going to have a Christmas gift exchange in the parking lot at 12:00 pm on Friday December 11th. You can sit in your car or get out and walk around. There will be a Christmas tree and Candy, and music playing. Bring a $10.00 gift for a man or a woman and be prepared to have some fun.

The senior center will be closed December 23- 25th for Christmas break. We wish you a merry Christmas. See you on Monday December 28th.

There will not be a toenail clinic this month, but watch for January’s clinic.

Little Johnny's preschool class went on a field trip to the fire station. The firefighter giving the presentation held up a smoke detector and asked the class: "Does anyone know what this is?"

Little Johnny goes to the mall to see Santa Claus.

So Santa told them to put a little pile of do-do everywhere Little Johnny wants to put a present, and when he wakes up on Christmas Day, he finds this pile of do-do and the parents ask Little Johnny what did you get for Christmas, and he says, I think I got a new dog, but I sure can’t find it.

I would hope by now that you have set your clocks back an hour. I personally wish that they would just leave it alone, but that’s a part of life.

The weather sure has been nice, that’s gives you a chance to get outside and do something, instead of being cooped up in the house.

Also, the senior center dining room is an option, to come in and eat lunch.

We are closed on holidays.

Our dining room is open, and everyone is welcome to come, no matter what age you are. The only thing is that I noticed on Friday that someone brought a baby, and we didn’t have a high chair. So we’ll work on that.

We will be closed on Wednesday November 11th to honor our men and women who served in the military, and who are still serving. Happy Veteran’s day.

On November 26th and November 27th we will close to celebrate thanksgiving. Happy thanksgiving to everyone.

Our thanksgiving feast will be on Wednesday November 18th. I thought we would try something different. If you are planning to eat with us on this day, would you be as kind to letting us know by Friday November 13th, so we can plan accordingly. Please call one of our friendly volunteers at 573-674-3558.

This one meal on this day will cost $7.00 per meal.

The meal will be turkey, stuffing, gravy, corn, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, pumpkin dessert, and drink. Please come and join us for a great feast.

Hello everyone from the Licking Senior Center, I trust everyone is having a good week. It’s hard to believe that on November 1st we will set our clocks backwards. And then just a few days later, we will be voting. They say time flys, when you’re having fun.

Lunch is served from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm. We have our dining room open, if you feel like coming in and eating. Precautions are being taken on our end, it’s up to you whether you want to distance yourself, although I strongly encourage it.

The toenail clinic will be here on October 28th, she will take one at a time, and a mask is highly recommended. Please call before you come in case of any changes.

We are open for carry outs and delivery. We’re really looking forward to opening up the dining room, but with the increased number of COVID cases, it’s just makes me a little bit uneasy at this time. I am hoping it won’t be long long. Sure am missing everyone.

As far as activities, were also still on hold.

Volunteers are very crucial to run a business such as the senior center. And the ones that we have, I don’t have the right words to say how fortunate we are to have them. Also, community support is the best. Thank you to all of you who helps one way or another.

After my retirement at the company I worked at for 50 years, I looked forward to some relaxation time and putting my feet up, but my wife had other ideas...

... she insisted I take her to the local shopping centre every day.

Like most men, I found shopping boring and preferred to get in and out.

She's like most women - loves to browse & leaves me with endless time to fulfill.

Yesterday my dear wife received the following letter,

from the local Shopping centre:

Dear Mrs. Harris:

Over the past six months, your husband has caused quite a commotion, in our store.

We cannot tolerate this behavior and have been forced to, ban both of you from the store.

Our complaints against your husband, Mr. Harris, are listed below and are documented by our video surveillance cameras:

July 2: Set all the alarm clocks in Housewares to go off at 5:00

July 19: Walked up to an employee and told her in an official voice,

'Code 3 in House wares. Get on it right away'.

This caused the employee to leave her assigned station and receive a reprimand from her Supervisor that in turn resulted with a union grievance, causing management to lose time; and costing the company money. We don't have a Code 3.

August 4: Went to the Service Desk and tried to put a bag of M&Ms on layaway.

August 14: Moved a, 'CAUTION - WET FLOOR' sign to a carpeted area.

August 15: Set up a tent in the camping department and told the children shoppers he'd invite them in if they would bring pillows and blankets from the bedding department to which twenty children obliged.

August 23: When a clerk asked if they could help him he began crying and screamed, 'Why can't you people just leave me alone?'

EMTs were called.

September 4: Looked right into the security camera and used it as a mirror while he picked his nose.

September 10: While handling guns in the hunting department, he asked the clerk where the antidepressants were.

October 3: Darted around the store suspiciously while, loudly humming the, 'Mission Impossible' theme.

October 18: Hid in a clothing rack and when people browsed through, yelled 'PICK ME! PICK ME!'

October 22: When an announcement came over the loud speaker, he assumed a fetal position and screamed;

'OH NO! IT'S THOSE VOICES AGAIN!'

And last, but not least:

October 23: Went into a fitting room, shut the door, waited awhile; then yelled very loudly, 'Hey! There's no toilet paper in here.'

One of the clerks passed out.

So I think this is what’s going to happen. We’ll see how the schools do this week with the virus, if cases are slim to none, we’ll open the dining room up. We be waiting to see how it goes. I hope it goes well, because it is very boring without the folks coming in.

As for as the toenail clinic on the 23rd of September, if the center is not open yet, we’ll try to do an outside clinic. If the dining room is open, we’ll do one at a time. Please call call details first at 573-674-3558.

The volunteers that make the center function daily are phenomenal. They are so concerned about making sure that the food is prepared in a timely manner, delivering homebound meals that are still hot when they get to the clients, Using their own vehicles to deliver, answering the phones professionally, and making sure everything is clean and neat upon leaving for the day. Also the treasurer who keeps up with the paperwork daily. Thanks to all of you, you are fantastic.

Volunteers are needed for deliveries and kitchen help, phone, etc.

I was thinking the other day, when I did get a chance to think, that we really have a nice facility for all to enjoy. It still takes a lot of people to make it function everyday. While I noticed that most of our volunteers live outside the city limits, I wondered where are those folks that live in town.

Why don’t you think about volunteering at the senior center. Pick up the phone and call Cindy at 573-674-3558. Volunteers make a difference in people’s lives.

Our dining room is still closed, but we are open for carry outs and deliveries and we still are serving our homebound folks, who look forward to seeing someone daily. There faces are priceless, that alone makes you feel good.

Lunch is served Monday through Friday from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm. Call early to get your meal delivered.

A kindergarten teacher handed out a coloring page to her class. On it was a picture of a duck holding an umbrella.

The teacher told her class to color the duck in yellow and the umbrella green. Little Johnny, the class rebel, colored the duck in a bright fire-truck red.

After seeing this, the teacher asked him, "Little Johnny, how many times have you seen a red duck?"

My family deeply appreciate your expression of sympathy, for the loss of my two brothers. Thank you for your support at this difficult time. Thank you for your prayers and thoughts. We are grateful for friends like you at this time of sorrow.

Little Johnny, instead of an apple, would daily bring his new teacher a pretzel from his uncle's bakery. She always thanked Little Johnny but one day she said, "These pretzels are very good but do you think your uncle could make them with no salt?"

Every day afterwards the pretzel was salt free. After a while the teacher felt she was making too much extra work for Little Johnny's uncle to make them without salt especially for her.

I don’t have very much to report, other than the Senior Center will be closed August 17th through August 21st. No carry outs or deliveries will be available. The reason is that (Cindy) has had some Unexplained deaths and or problems in the family. Thank you all for all the prayers and thoughts during this difficult time.

Beginning August 24th the dining room will be closed and we will be open for carry out and delivery.

There is still not a whole lot going on at the senior center. Although we are still serving our homebound and call ins for deliveries and still serving lunch from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm. If you would like your meal delivered please call us at 573-674-3558.

There will not be any more jam sessions for the rest of the year. Sorry for the inconvenience, but I think this is best for right now. I will evaluate the situation next year, if in fact the group still would like to play at that time.

I am looking for someone who would to volunteer, delivering meals on Fridays. Maybe a couple who just have retired, or just one person. If interested please call Cindy at 573-674-3558.

Volunteers are the most essential part of what makes the senior center turn. All of our volunteers are always there on the day you need them. I never hear any slack from any of them, except I have one that is a little mouthy at times, call Cindy at 573-674-3558 and guess who that is.

A blonde was desperate for money,

so she decided to go to the richer neighborhoods around town and look for odd jobs.

At the first house, a man answered the door and told her. 'Yeah, I have a job for you. Could you paint the porch?'

At least we got some rain. After all, Why do cows lie down in the rain? To keep each udder dry.

If you are one that supports the Licking senior center, I say to God bless you. Meals are served Monday through Friday from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm. We offer carry outs and delivery. So please call 573-674-3558 if you want a delivery. In my opinion our food is finger LICKING good.

Volunteers in Licking, especially at the senior center, are the best. It takes special people with dedicated hearts to come in week after week, to prepare the food, take phone calls, sign in people at the desk, dishes, clean up, etc. Board Members. What an amazing group of volunteers.

We are still looking for a volunteer delivery driver for Wednesday. Just a couple hours a day to deliver home bound meals and carry outs. This something a couple can do together to make a difference in someone’s life. If interested please call Cindy at 573-674-3558.

We are still holding off on all activities. Who knows when we will be able to start back up. But it will happen, I’m sure.

Mrs. Applebee, the 6th grade teacher, posed the following problem to one of her classes:

Hard to believe it’s already the 4th of July.

After all, What's the difference between a duck and George Washington? One has a bill on his face, and the other has his face on a bill.

Just for the record, we are paying close attention to coronavirus guidelines, but if you are sick, please stay home. That is the best policy.

Volunteers, you are needed. Right now we need a delivery driver to deliver meals to our home bound and call ins on Wednesday and Friday’s. This is one way to make your heart feel good. Do unto others, the way you would want to be treated. These home bound folks are so happy when their meals are brought to them. Their faces just glow with happiness. Please call Cindy at 573-674-3558 if you would like to volunteer.

SENIOR HAPPENINGS - May 28, 2020

Hello to everyone from all of us at the Licking Senior center. I trust that everyone had a good week. I know we need rain, but i for one have seen enough. After all, when does it rain money, when there’s a change in the weather.

So we’ve opened the dining room up this past week. I have never seen the people so relieved to be here. Faces were glowing, just to come back and see each other, and just catch up.

There we’re record numbers of meals served this week. Approximately 500 for the week. It seems that people are still worried about the virus and you have every reason to be, but don’t be a prisoner in your own home. Wear a mask and bring some gloves and come over to the senior center, and try to get back to normal, as much as you can. Just remember you can’t eat with your mask on.

We have pandemic therapy quilt that you can buy raffle tickets for. This quilt was donated by Ann Liebert. Tickets are $1.00 each and the quilt will be raffled off on August 3rd.

Not much going on , there will be no events until further notice.

In class one day, Mr. Johnson pulled Johnny over to his desk after a test, and said, "Johnny I have a feeling that you have been cheating on your tests." Johnny was astounded and asked Mr. Johnson to prove it. "Well," said Mr. Johnson, "I was looking over your test and the question was, 'Who was our first president?', and the little girl that sits next to you, Mary, put 'George Washington,' and so did you." "So, everyone knows that he was the first president." "Well, just wait a minute," said Mr. Johnson. "The next question was, 'Who freed the slaves?' Mary put Abraham Lincoln and so did you." "Well, I read the history book last night and I remembered that," said Johnny. "Wait, wait," said Mr. Johnson. The next question was, "Who was president during the Louisiana Purchase?" Mary put 'I don't know,' and you put, 'Me neither."

Hello to all of you from all of us at the Licking Senior Center. I trust that things are getting back to a somewhat normal life.

We have opened the dining up with a few guidelines. And carry outs are still available as well. Praise the Lord, we will be frying chicken on Thursday, a request from about every call when Thursday came.

There will be a toenail clinic on Wednesday May 27th. I’m sure some of you have toenails busting through your shoes. After all my toenails are so long when I go outside the mow the grass. There will not be any other events scheduled at the senior center until further notice.

On the first day of school, Little Johnny was asked by his teacher what his father's job was. The boy stood up, and before answering his teacher's question, he gave her a sweet smile first.

"He's a magician, ma'am," Little Johnny said proudly. The teacher said that his father's occupation is fascinating.

Shen then asked the young man what his father's favorite trick was. Johnny answered that his dad saws people in half.

The teacher was even more impressed with his father, saying he was incredible. She asked Johnny if he had any siblings. To which the boy replied, "Yes, ma'am! One half brother and two half sisters."

Hello to all of you from all of us at the Licking Senior Center. I trust that you all are trying to get back to your normal activities.

The senior center is going to reopen on May 18th. There will be guidelines in place, such as social distancing for one. We also will still be doing carry outs and homebound meals.

Volunteers are going to coming back as well, but the volunteers that have helped these last 2 months have been totally amazing. Thank you so much volunteers. If you would like to volunteer please contact Cindy at 673-674-3558. Or come see me at 114 Green Street.

Bank Day with Town and Country Bank will be on May 19th at 11:00 am. The main entree will be roast pork.

We will be canceling Rinne’s pharmacy day until June. Sorry for any convenience this may cause you.

Toenail clinic will be May 27th at 10:00 am. There will be guidelines for this as well.

All other activities at the center will be cancelled until further notice.

We will be closed on Monday May 25th for Memorial Day. Happy Memorial Day.

Two sisters, one blonde and one brunette, inherit the family ranch. Unfortunately, after just a few years, they are in financial trouble. In order to keep the bank from repossessing the ranch, they need to purchase a bull from the stockyard in a far town so that they can breed their own stock. They only have $600 left. Upon leaving, the brunette tells her sister, "When I get there, if I decide to buy the bull, I'll contact you to drive out after me and haul it home." The brunette arrives at the stockyard, inspects the bull, and decides she wants to buy it. The man tells her that he will sell it for $599, no less. After paying him, she drives to the nearest town to send her sister a telegram to tell her the news. She walks into the telegraph office and says, "I want to send a telegram to my sister telling her that I've bought a bull for our ranch. I need her to hitch the trailer to our

Well, after paying for the bull, the brunette only has $1 left. She realizes that she'll only be able to send her sister one word. After a few minutes of thinking, she nods and says, "I want you to send her one word: comfortable." The operator shakes his head. 'How is she ever going to know that you want her to hitch the trailer to your pickup truck and drive out here to haul that bull back to your ranch if you send her just the word "comfortable?" The brunette explains, "My sister's blonde. The word's big. She'll read it very slowly ... com-for-da-bull."

We’re still going pretty good, the volunteers are so amazing in keeping up with checking in to see if I need them. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Cindy at 573-674-3558.

We are trying to schedule a toenail clinic on May 27th. I bet some of you have toenails sticking through your shoes. Please call ahead before coming to the senior center.

Anticipating opening the dining room on May 18th as long as there isn’t any problem.

As far as other things like jam sessions and bingos. We will not be doing for a little while longer. Just be patient.

Little Johnny was Mommy's helper. He helped set the table when company was due for dinner. Soon, everything was on, Mr. Smith, the guest came in, and everyone sat down. Then Mother noticed something was missing.... "Little Johnny dear," she said, "You didn't put a knife and fork at Mr. Smiths place." "But, Mommy, I thought he wouldn't need them," explained Little Johnny. "Daddy says he always eats like a horse!"

The Licking Senior Center is a not-for-profit organization consisting of two entities, the Licking Senior Center and Licking Bridgebuilders, also known as Texas County Transportation. An eleven-member board is elected to two-year terms and is responsible for the operation of the organization. Current board members include Cynthia Wampner, President; Dot Pursifull, Vice President; Lillian Maxey, Treasurer; Linda Schafer, Secretary; Rev. Eugene Maxey; Keith Cantrell; Kenneth Hollenbeck; Mary Barker; Richard Hofstetter; Connie Kell and Amanda Knoll. Currently the Senior Center has 240 members.

A large component of the success of the organization is the support it receives from the community – approximately 30 volunteers give an average of 320 hours monthly. There are only four paid workers, two in the center, and two in transportation. Two part-time drivers are on call and donate most of their time.

During the first quarter of 2020, the Licking Senior Center provided 3698 meals, an average of 57 meals per day. This number is likely decreased from what it would have been, with the dining room closed for much of March. Drive-through pickup and delivery meals have remained available throughout the social distancing period. Some necessary changes have been made to the menu to allow 10 or fewer people to assemble for food preparation.

The delivery people provide a dual service for the community. First, some of the people to whom they deliver meals are unable to leave their homes and unable to easily prepare food, so the large, balanced meal can be vital to their nutrition. Second, the delivery person is able to check on those who are homebound and assure they are well. Several times, this second service has proven to be of vital importance.

Director Cynthia Wampner says, “We have found about a dozen folks who have fallen or maybe are sick, and called an ambulance or family to come and check on them.”

The transportation part of the organization, Texas County Transportation, operates handicap accessible vans. Anyone is eligible to use the service, but you must call at least a day in advance to set up the appointment. During the pandemic, the vans are still operating, following current guidelines. The hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday (closed most holidays).

In 1973, the Senior Center opened in Licking. It became associated with the Southwest Missouri Office of Aging in 1976, and was serving 50-60 meals per day in 1993-1994. A building fund was established in October 2014; in December of that same year, a breakaway committee formed. On Monday, January 19, 2015, the Licking Senior Center began to prepare meals on its own. After 17 months of fundraisers, the money was gathered to build the current building. Thanks again to the community, the building was ready to move into on November 16, 2016.

Wampner says, “There are so many (things) to be thankful for, especially the countless hours that Lonnie Ward spent building the building, along with his buddies and so, so many others who had a hand in it.”

When the dining area is open, the center hosts Tuesday night jam sessions, toenail clinics, bank days, pharmacy days, occasional all-you-can eat breakfasts, and the monthly Route 63 Car Club meeting. Special events occur throughout the year as well.

“Currently I couldn’t be more happy with the way things are going at the Licking Senior Center, and with all the great volunteers. Thanks to all the businesses and folks who continue to support the Licking Senior Center,” said Wampner.

Wampner and husband, Jerry, who drives for Texas County Transportation, came to Licking in 2004 to buy recreational property. In May of 2005, they sold their house in Illinois and built a house on their property. Wampner called the senior center to see if someone would teach her to crochet, and Barbara Killion taught her to make several afghans. She began to deliver meals with Don and Darlena Young then became a pro tem secretary, eventually replacing Novella Murr due to illness. She helped out in transportation with Killion and Joyce Krewson, going with them to all of the MPTA conferences held across the state. In 2007, she became the volunteer transportation director of the Licking Senior Center and worked in that status for several years. Wampner became director of the center in January 2015.

Hello to all of you from a few of us at the Licking Senior Center. I’m trusting everyone is playing it safe during these difficult times. Don’t forget to especially use gloves when it comes to pumping your gas. Also you need to disinfect your cell phone and cover by wiping it down with a Clorox wipe or alcohol. I’m just full of all kinds of advice aren’t I.

Things are still running pretty smooth, although I sure am missing all of you. If nothing else just drop during business hours and just say hi, and words of encouragement always is good.

We did spruce up the front of the building this week with some beautiful flowers. Drop by and see them if you can.

These volunteers in our town are wonderful. The full time cook (Vanessa Ellis) has given up her paycheck now for six weeks and doing only volunteer work just to help give back to the center. Thank you Vanessa for doing that.

The rest of the volunteers give up alot of their time day after day, week after week. I can’t say enough about them. Just know volunteers, that you truly are appreciated. A farmer and a king died at the same time.

I know that most of you are not liking to stay home, but it is only for our own protection. Hang in there hopefully it won’t be long.

The senior center is open, but the dining room will remain closed, but even after the Governor gives the all clear, the dining room will remain closed for at least 2 weeks more. We are delivering to our home bound and deliveries and those folks who call in to pickup.

This will continue as long as there isn’t any positive cases in Texas County.

SENIOR HAPPENINGS - April 9, 2020

Hello to all of you from all of us at the Licking Senior Center. I trust everyone is abiding by the stay at home order.

Easter is next Sunday, I know there won’t be any egg hunts, but make sure you come by the center and count the eggs that’s are in the window. After all, Easter is the only time of year when you can safely put all of your eggs in one basket.

We are running very low on volunteers, some of the older volunteers have elected to stay home for a while. And that is great. That’s what I would expect them to do. So anyone who would like to help us through this critical time, please call Cindy at 573-674-3558.

I’m working what few volunteers I have have to a pulp. Lol it seems like it anyway. They always have said you can work a good horse to death.

If you want a carry out or delivery, please call early so we can get it ready for you. So far it is going pretty smooth. Call us first and see what is on the menu, because menus are subject to change.

A parishioner was in front of me coming out of church one day, and the preacher was standing at the door as he always is to shake hands. He grabbed the parishioner by the hand and pulled him aside. The Pastor said to him, "You need to join the Army of the Lord!" The parishioner replied, "I'm already in the Army of the Lord, Pastor." Pastor questioned, "How come I don't see you except at Christmas and Easter?" He whispered back, "I'm in the secret service."

SENIOR HAPPENINGS - April 1, 2020

THello to everyone from all of us at the Licking senior center. I trust that you are having a good week.

We are still open for business, but our dining room is closed. Our volunteers are dwindling a little, but there have been others from the community that have come forward to fill in for those whose kids have told them to stay home until this has run its course.

The menus have changed a little bit, because for one, we can’t find any beans to go with Friday’s meal. And two, volunteers who do so much to make this happen. We served approximately 300 meals out the from door this last week, so people still need are looking for a place to find food and see someone with a friendly face. Please call ahead and check with a volunteer to see what we are cooking up in the kitchen.

Usually on every April 1st we have Vi Bailie and Luetta Swaringim day. This is a day set aside to honor these two for all of the years and hours that they have volunteered at the senior center and they still are going strong.

Vi is 95 years old and is in charge of our Love Your Center program and is the main one in keeping Eugene Maxey lines out and anyone else who needs an attitude adjustment. Lol. But she helps drying dishes and jam session when needed.

Luetta is 96 years old and still takes care of the desk on Wednesday and Friday. And when asked she will do just about anything you ask her to do.

And she keeps Minnie Akers and Kay Johnston in line as well.

I hope I will be able to volunteer at that age doing something good to make someone else happy. Keep on keeping on ladies, you are a big asset at the senior center.

At Sunday School they were teaching how God created everything, including human beings. Little Johnny, a child in the Kindergarten class, seemed especially intent when they told him how Eve was created out of one of Adam's ribs. Later in the week his mother noticed him lying down as though he were ill, and asked, "Johnny, what is the matter?" Little Johnny groaned and responded , "I have a pain in my side. I think I'm going to have a wife."

SENIOR HAPPENINGS - March 26, 2020

Hello to everyone from all of us at the Licking Senior Center. I trust that you are having a good week in spite of all the news of the Coronavirus.

Just to let you know that we are still open for our homebound customers and all call ins and for everyone who comes to the door and orders a meal. We are closed for dining in. We will continue to do the same thing as long as we have food supplies and volunteers to keep up with the demand. And we are taking extra precautions by wiping down everything we touch. If you can give us any time to volunteer please call Cindy at 573-674-3558.

Little Johnny's preschool class went on a field trip to the fire station. The firefighter giving the presentation held up a smoke detector and asked the class: "Does anyone know what this is?"

Little Johnny's hand shot up and the firefighter called on him.

Little Johnny replied: "That's how Mommy knows supper is ready!"

Hello from all of us at the Licking Senior center. I trust everyone had a good week.

We are all wondering just how this CoronaVirus will effect us. Just know we are taking precautions at the senior center, by wiping down all things that everyone touches. We have signs on front doors, that if you are sick, we will bring a carry out to you. But please for the sake of everyone, if you are sick, please stay home. Since we are taking things day by day, call us before you come at 573-674-3558.

If you want us to deliver your meal to you, please call 573-674-3558. Lunch is served from 11:00 until 12:30 pm.

Little Johnny was in class and the teacher announced that they were going to try something different to help everyone get to know each other a little better, and to help with their spelling. She explained, "I want you to stand up and give us the occupation of your father, spell it, and say one thing he would give us all if he was here today." The first student raised her hand to volunteer. "Marcy," the teacher said. "You may go first." Marcy replied, "My father is a banker. B-A-N-K-E-R and if he was here today, he would give us all a shiny new penny." The teacher said, "Very nice, Marcy, who wants to go next?" Kevin stood up and announced, "My father is a baker. B-A-K-E-R and if he was here today, he would give us all a freshly-baked cookie." "Very good," the teacher told Kevin. Jeff was next, and he said, "My father is an accountant. A-K, no wait, A-C-K, no..." Before he could attempt to spell it once more, the teacher cut him off and told him to sit back down and to think about it for a while. When he thought he knew how to spell it, he could stand back up and try again. Little Johnny raised his hand in excitement hoping to be acknowledged by the teacher. The teacher called on little Johnny to go next. Johnny said, "My father is a bookie. B-O-O-K-I-E and if he was here today, he would give us all 20:1 odds Jeff will never be able to spell "accountant."

One day, Little Johnny's grandmother sent him

to the water hole to get some water for cooking dinner. As he was dipping the bucket in, he saw two big eyes looking back at him. He dropped the bucket and ran back to grandma's house as fast as he could. "Where's my bucket and my water?" She asked. A beautiful young girl is about to undergo a minor operation. She’s laid on a hospital trolley bed with nothing on, except a sheet over her. The nurse pushes the trolley down the corridor towards the operating theatre, where she leaves the girl on the trolley outside, while she goes in to check whether everything is ready. A young man wearing a white coat approaches, lifts the sheet up and starts examining her body. He puts the sheet back and then walks away and talks to another man in a white coat. The second man comes over, lifts the sheet and does the same examinations. When a third man does the same thing, but more closely, she grows impatient and says: “All these examinations are fine and appreciated, but when are you going to start the operation?” The man in the white coat shrugged his shoulders: “I have no idea. We’re just painting the corridor.”
